Nairobi county sits as the heart of the nation and a platform for the other counties in the country. Using GIS to view the different map layers of the city , i.e , road map , aerial imagery , the hospitals , schools , waterpoints etc.  is of much efficiency in planning process for the future tasks in the county.

Analysis can  be performed in many levels such as , distance buffers from a point to another , the general view of the area and  walking time factor .

Using Kibera as my Area Of Interest , within Nairobi county project boundary.

buffer analysis at 1 2 3 km

GIS has generally reduced the time factor to completing a task and effectively employs every little detail asssociated with either a point , line or polygonial feature drawn to the map.

we can swith from a single basemap to the other easily.

GIS engineering and our World.

engineeringis the creative application of science ,mathematical methods , and empirical evidence to the innovation ,design ,construction ,operation and maintenance of structures ,machines , materials ,devices ,systems ,processes and organizations.

Geographic information system (GIS)- as a  technology provides the tools for creating, managing, analyzing, and visualizing the data associated with developing and
managing infrastructure.this allows engineers to manage and
share data (The data can be related to both a project and its broader geographic context.) and turn it into easily understood reports and visualizations that can be analyzed and communicated to others.

This helps organizations and governments work together to
develop strategies for sustainable development. GIS  can be seen to  play
an increasingly important role in engineering companies, supporting all phases of the infrastructure life cycle.

Engineering has existed since ancient times, when humans devised inventions such as the wedge, lever, wheel and pulley.

The 21st century has strive to take every challenge straight on its head. This can be seen by the joint force that man-kind has put in place ;from the universal world unions to our personal social sites.such issues are  subjects in the modern 21st century research.

GIS as an engineering as a spatial platform has improved the way we visualize these simple and tiny relationships that bind/join/relate/coexist-in our activities. This can be a harder a task to go about in full absence of data and a vital track of the pattern.

example of a Map by Dr. John snow of London showing clusters of cholera cases in the 1854 broad street cholera outbreak. This was one of the first uses of map-based spatial analysis.

we can analyze the  the map above in so many ways;

-source of the outbreak ( river ,open sewer etc.   )

– the various location displaying where the outbreak was reported.

-severe extent of the outbreak according to the number of reports.(geographical extent and no. of persons)

-affected areas.(small scale or large scale).

We can  then use such  patterns and be able to predict an almost suitable or most effective outcome using the very information acquired from the pattern.

Complex issues arise in spatial analysis, many of which are neither clearly defined nor completely resolved, but form the basis for current research.

Spatial analysis confronts many fundamental issues in the definition of its objects of study, in the construction of the analytic operations to be used, in the use of computers for analysis, in the limitations and particularities of the analyses which are known, and in the presentation of analytic results.

some of the basic operations include:

-vector-based GIS can be related to map overlay and simple buffering operations.

-for raster_based GIS , i.e remote sensed data and maps ,operations involving filtering and algebraic operations that involve processing one or more raster layer to a new map layer.

VI-Bandas vs Modern Market.

i have just had a meal in Nairobi town in some mama`s all was just the same as it always stands ,problem being i just dont know for how long. For some time now , our leaders have decided to clear out the vi-bandas located near our roads.

They have decided that these Vibandas are some of the structures that dirt the country.

i then had to ask what and how the affected mama would be able to fend for herself soon.

i talked to an engineer about it and his  answer was quit clear; “vibandas exist even in the wazungus only much tidy,”he continued ,” find a way of filling the gap that that mama had once filled and you would totally understand that mama`s way of getting that little cash .”

i then remembered our education system ,with the production of new architectures , and questioned why no-one soul has ever taken that good looking open-market plans they have been presented with over time and take it to our Leaders.

i had a friend with good sketch ups and models of modern markets that can help improve our vibandas instead of making that hardworking mama from shedding tears cause she has to fend to her child whom can elevate her life status later.

a plan can be defined as an act of forecasting the near future events to that which you best think would occur.

planning for a city can be that a big data from the infrastuctures ,to the buildings ,to some of the bandas near the roads , the new projects undergoing etc.

this would somehow call for awell planned thought to go about the whole process to professional and economical level.

planning is a vital step to a better output.

using such as a platform, for  analysis and quotation of project tasks ,this can be a vital tool in our modern ever changing world.

3D planning enables also viewing from different point of perspectives ,i.e northwards ,southwards ,eastwards and towards the west.

working with 3 Dimensional plan is quite labour intensive but still has the best of the views one can need i.e view of the KICC towers from Muthaiga Square a distance of about a kilometer or just that view of aberdares ranges from your balcony , this then needs to call for a well coordinated plan in XYZ directions of the world projection sytems.

today just wanted to do some academic project task.

this would be as follows;

1.acquire a satellite imagery for my area of interest.

notice area of intrest marked in red in image below.

2.digitize the point of interest to spatial data format.(vector based- lines and points)

-from the satellite image , i digitize the area boundary ,the well ,main house and latrines. using Google earth to  digitize according to the spatial data types namely ; polygon [fence boundary ,house boundary ] ,points[well and trees ] and lines[paths and roads].

3.analysis on the image mostly involve use of GIS in performing some tasks i.e.from the digitized image format ,we can now perform analysis of different kinds according to the task.

i.e. measures of the area of interest .

elevation profiles of the aoi.

do you realize that a pain done several centuries back can still catch your imaginative thought.

taking a look at the famous paintings of all times is such an epic tour to the real world thought that govern man and his environments.

Africa is a centrally position continent in the world with an estimated population of  1.2 billion people. It consists of  54 recognized sovereign states and countries ,9 territories and 2 de facto independent states.

Africa straddles the equator and encompasses numerous climate areas; i.e Africa continent is the only continent that stretches from the northern temperate to southern temperate zones.

Central Eastern Africa, is widely accepted as the place of origin of humans and the Hominidae clade (great apes).this is as evidenced by the discovery of the earliest hominids and their ancestors as well as later ones that have been dated to around 7 million years ago, including Sahelanthropus tchadensis, Australopithecus africanus, A. afarensis, Homo erectus, H. habilis and H. ergaster—with the earliest Homo sapiens (modern human) found in Ethiopia being dated to circa 200,000 years ago.

but then ,lots of shadow cast upon the bright continent ,challenges that emerge in Africa has affected the growth and development of the continent in many levels .

Africa diversity and culture can surely succeed such times with keen interest in we Africans.

the very resources that drive the world we readily have ,the numbers we surely are projected to have, the leaders are presently active ,what then?is it the shadows that the Europeans cast on the continent still haunting this beauty of a place.

unity i can say is the only option and hard choice to make when it comes to speaking African staff.once Africa is single the the center of the universe would surely shift back to its former, AFRICA.

of the series i think is best to blog about ,the Brave is just among them.

the series try to capture the reality between different environments ,

i hope Kenya would find itself there too.

revolves around differently thought-action-episodes.

this particular episode is my favorite.

a map is representation of earth surface on a plain paper loaded with information elements such as title ,key  and compass direction according to earths magnetic axis.

maps can be classified into several types

1.sketch maps

2.Thematic maps

3.Political maps

4.Physical maps

5.Topographic maps

6.Climate maps

over centuries ,spatial data has changed and improved in accuracy and precision.

invention such as GPS ,and satellite imagery are of importance to the provision of data.

with processed information then we can shift any part of the data to a specific task.

human resources such as cartographers , Scientist ,geologist and Gis specialists etc all need this data to run many tasks in the field and office.

overlaying of various data-set is a specialty i learnt using Gis and remote sensing techniques of data analysis.

laws of prayers.

man always believe in a higher power since the beginning of times.

how many times should someone then talk to a higher being?all the time ,anytime i suppose.

but then most individuals know not of the times to prayer.

if i did pray today morning , and just before the evening someone attacks me before i get home, would i pray once again or would i just wait for the later to take effect?

this brings about how we should offer our prayers taking to count the different religious groups of the world.

mount crucifix

as such man communicates to the higher being through spiritual enlightenment he possesses.

a prayer usually short and just that precise according to the what we need or required.

This has been since the start of religion .

prayers usually hosted during special events and timing ,mostly appreciative of a situation to be or to be expected.

most people prefer morning prayers and evening prayers.

during those times the whole family come in unity to appreciate the days events.
